Debate is an excellent preparation for a number of careers, including those in education, ministry, law, communications, business and public service.Having won some of the earliest honors in the history of our college, Walters State Debaters have been demonstrating excellence in intercollegiate competition for over four decades, including a National Championship in Novice Parliamentary Debate at the Phi Kappa Delta Comprehensive Tournament in 2006. Our 2011-12 season included participating in and winning or placing in the Chicken or Egg, Smoky Mountain, Tennessee Porch Swing, Volunteer Classic, Northeast State and The Little Brown Jug tournaments. A limited number of work scholarships are available each year for students who participate in the debate team.
