Editor-in-Chief
The Editor of Gallery is responsible for publicizing the magazine, attending the creative writing class where submission policies are explained, posting signs and posters on campus announcing deadlines and submission procedures, and establishing a good working relationship with the printing office. This person has overall control of the creative writing and art submissions and should strive for diversity and representation of the overall student body within the magazine. The editor-in-chief will also develop announcements for The Bulletin and the infosys system to request submissions and promote Gallery.
The editor-in-chief checks placement of material in galley form, proofreads for grammatical correctness and makes sure that two other staff members also read and edit each work for correctness. This takes, depending upon the size and content of the magazine, from two to three weeks to accomplish.
The editor-in-chief has the final decision regarding type style and size, the format of the magazine as well as its layout and design. It is his or her responsibility to check the final proof copy to be sure that corrections have been made either on a blueline or the final digital proofs. The editor-in-chief is also responsible for the distribution of the Gallery on Honors Day.
Text Editor
The text editor is primarily responsible for proofing and editing the text of the magazine. The text editor also publicizes the magazine, encourages fellow students to submit written material, and makes submission posters for creative writing to display on Walters State campuses. The text editor edits and checks proof copies, proofreads content, and ensures the correct formatting for the table of contents. The text editor must learn how to utilize "styles" in word processing and page layout to streamline the layout procedure. The text editor shares responsibility with the editor-in-chief for the magazine's correctness and pleasing appearance. The text editor is also responsible for the distribution of Gallery on Honors Day.
Art Editor
The art editor encourages student artists and photographers to submit work to be used as illustrations in the magazine. Working with the text editor, the art editor is responsible for making submissions posters for art work to display on Walters State campuses. The art editor selects and determines the amount of photography and art included in the magazine, which must also meet the approval of the entire editorial staff as well as faculty advisors. The art editor is also responsible for the distribution of Gallery on Honors Day.
Design Editor
The design editor submits designs for both the cover and interior layout of the magazine, which the entire staff approves. This may come from student submissions or the design editor's own design. Placement of selected artwork and photography falls under the discretion of the design editor as well. In case of a lack of suitable material, the design editor will also be responsible for illustrating or photographing work for stories and poems as needed. Photographs of submitted art works also must be taken and scanned, and it the responsibility of the design editor to either do this work or oversee its completion. The design editor will work in close association with the text editor to ensure that the digital format of the layout works seamlessly between initial text and final digital proofs and must be familiar with "styles" and "master pages" to streamline layout and expedite major design changes. The design editor is also responsible for the distribution of Gallery on Honors Day.
