David SheltonDavid Shelton
Head Coach

Coach David Shelton came to Walters State in the 2003. Prior to Walters State, he served as an assistant at East Tennessee State University for five years. Coach Shelton, a native of Erwin, TN, played collegiate baseball at Milligan College where he is among the career leaders in many offensive categories. Coach Shelton serves as the recruiting coordinator at Walters State while coaching the position players and hitters. During his stint at Walters State, Coach Shelton has recruited and coached 50 players that have been drafted by Major League Baseball Teams. Shelton also serves as an associate scout for the Atlanta Braves.

He is married to the former Stefanie Reynolds and they have one son, Dalton.

 Sean Robinson
Assistant Coach

Sean comes to Walters State after serving as an Assistant at Carson Newman College. Sean will be in charge of the Senators Pitching Staff. Originally from Knox Central High School, Sean played 4 years of college baseball at Milligan College, where he was a mainstay on the Buffaloes Pitching Staff both as a starter and a reliever.  

Justin PickettJustin Pickett
Assistant Coach

Coach Justin Pickett joined the Senators Staff as an assistant in 2010, and is in charge of working with hitters, infielders, and catchers. Pickett played for the Senators in 2005 and 2006, making two World Series appearances and being part of the 2006 National Champion team. Pickett was a two-time All-TCCAA performer. He received 2006 TCCAA Player of the Year honors. Pickett was drafted by the San Diego Padres and played five years professionally between the Padres and Texas Rangers Minor League System and the Florence Freedom in the Frontier League. Pickett is married to former Senator Softball standout, Sarah Hoskins Pickett.

Joey SeaverJoey Seaver
Assistant Coach

Joey Seaver has been an Assistant Coach at Walters State since 1999 and has spent 14 years specifically as a Ptiching Coach. He previously coached pitchers at Carson-Newman College for 10 years and pitched professionally in the minor leagues for the Milwaukee Brewers.

Coach Seaver played his college years at Walters State and the University of Tennessee. He was drafted 4 times during his college career. During his tenure at Walters State, 31 pitchers have been drafted by Major League Baseball.

In 2006, Coach Seaver coached a pitching staff that established school records for wins (61) and strikeouts (465) in a season. During the summer of 2006, Coach Seaver was hired by the Boston Red Sox to serve as the pitching coach for their Single A club in Lowell, Massachusetts.
