Getting to know … Wes Walker
Sophomore catcher Wes Walker, a native of Seymour and graduate of Seymour High
School, returns to Walters State after a freshman season in which he started 25
games. Walker hit .270 in his first season, with two homers, three doubles and
15 RBIs.
Walker will be counted on in the 2010 season to be the starting catcher for the
Senators, as the baseball team looks for another return trip to the JUCO World
Series in Grand Junction, Colo.
How tough was the transition from playing baseball in high school to playing in
college?
WW: It was a big step. I got to see a lot better pitching, which made it harder
for me to adjust and hit.
Was there a player growing up that you looked up to or modeled your game after?
WW: I’ve always looked up to my friend Kyle Koeneman (former WSCC Senator and
current LSU Tiger). We have known each other for a long time, and as I was
growing up, I always liked the way he played the game.
To you, what is the most exciting part about the game of baseball?
WW: I love to win, especially against the big teams. I also enjoy knowing that
all of my teammates can get along and that they can get the job done in any
situation.
What is your pre-game routine?
WW: I get my blood pumping by running, stretching really well and getting loose.
I also say a prayer to myself.
Which one of your teammates probably sends the most text messages?
WW: Dylan Pratt.
What do you like most about WSCC?
WW: I like playing baseball, making good grades and hanging out with my
teammates.
What has been your most difficult class you have taken at WSCC?
WW: Psychology.
What has been your favorite memory on the baseball diamond in your career?
WW: Winning a world series.
What is it like playing for Coach Ken Campbell?
WW: It has been an awesome experience. Coach Campbell is very aggressive, and he
can’t stand to lose.
