SCOTTSBORO, Ala. – The Walters State golf team set a new program best with a second place finish in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament Friday, ending the season on a remarkable run that saw them finish in the top two in their last three events.

The Senators shot a final round 302 (14-over par) to shoot a four-day score of 1171 (19-over par), which was 32 shots behind national champion South Mountain (1139, 13-under par) but 12 shots clear of third place John A. Logan of Illinois.

The duo of Andrew Hall and Brad Hawkins both took home All-American honors from the event after they each finished in the top seven.

Hall ended his four-day run with a 71 in the final round, giving him a total of 286 (2-under par) and a sixth place finish. He was only one shot out of a tie for second place, and he finished six shots behind individual champion David Keenan of Parkland, who shot an 8-under par 280.

Hawkins fired a final round 77 to end up in seventh place by himself at 287 (1-under par) for the tournament. He entered the final round just two strokes behind the leader but could not make up any ground.

In the team standings, South Mountain, Walters State and John A. Logan were followed by Kirkwood (1185) and Black Hawk (1188) in the top five, while Mississippi Gulf Coast (1189), Southeast Nebraska (1191), Muskegon (1193), Tyler (1194) and Owens (1197) rounded out the top 10 in the 18-team tournament.

Ryne Thompson shot a 76 in the final round to post a four-day score of 293 (5-over par) to finish tied for 22nd place for the Senators, while Chase Atkins carded an 81 and Cody Johnson turned in a 78 in the final round, as they both tied for 77th place at 310.
