Walters State’s Support Staff Council has moved its popular holiday bazaar up a few months and changed the name to the Harvest Festival Craft Fair. This year’s event is Oct. 4 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. in the “Z” Buda Gymnasium in the Dr. Jack E Campbell College Center on the Morristown campus. The event is now booking vendors.
“The first two craft fairs exceeded our expectations,” said Karen Buel, graphic designer at Walters State and a member of the Support Staff Council.
“In the past, we have had everything from hand-tied fishing flies to beautiful jewelry and hand-woven baskets, with many items for fall and holiday decorating and gift-giving,” Buel said. Many vendors from previous years are coming back for the third year, she added.
Buel said the council is allowing specialty items to rent booths as well as craftsman. This includes representatives of companies like Mary Kay, Thirty-one, and Pampered Chef. Only one booth/vendor will be allowed for each brand, she explained. These will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Booths are $40. A discounted rate of $25 is available for Walters State employees, students and alumni.
“This year we are very excited about having our student clubs involved with the activities of the day. The Agriculture Club will be selling mums,” Buel said.
The Support Staff Council is also seeking donations for a silent auction planned that day. Proceeds from both the bazaar and the silent auction benefit the Support Staff Council, which sponsors a variety of events throughout the year including scholarships to support staff members continuing their education.
