Walters State Community College has added medical administrative assistant to the popular non-credit healthcare career classes already offered, including certified nursing assistant, registered dental assistant, and phlebotomy technician.
Many of these short-term classes are the first steps toward careers in healthcare, a field that has continued to grow despite the recession. Completion of most of these classes prepares students to take state or national licensure exams.
“This new program is intended to provide a well-rounded introduction to medical administration and prepares students to take the National Health Career Association Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) exam,” said Linda Nelms, coordinator for healthcare community education courses at Walters State.
“This class also compliments the clinical medical assistant program offered in partnership with Boston Reed College. These courses aim to create a path for individuals to enter the medical assistant field,” Nelms said.
The medical administrative assistant course is planned Oct. 1-Dec. 19 at the Morristown campus. The cost is $1299. The clinical medical assistant program costs $2409.
Other programs planned this fall include the CNA course at a cost of $569 and the phlebotomy technician course at a cost of $2009. Most programs include a clinical rotation.
More courses will be announced later in the fall for the first of 2013. Look for registered dental assistant classes, EKG technician and others.
