Continuing Ed Plans Courses in Healthcare Fields

For those thinking about a career in healthcare, Walters State’s Division of Community Education plans the following noncredit classes this fall: certified nursing assistant, phlebotomy and phlebotomy externship and registered dental assistant. Greeneville classes are offered at the Walters State Greeneville/Greene County Campus or the Greene County Center for Technology. 
•Phlebotomy – Tuesday and Thursdays, 5:30-9 p.m., Sept. 24-Dec. 3
The class includes classroom and clinical instruction in venipuncture, the process of drawing blood. Learn to safely draw blood and prepare it for labs or testing. This class can lead to careers medical laboratories, hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities and other healthcare settings. The cost is $799.
•Phlebotomy Externship is for completing the phlebotomy course. This provides additional training with 40 clinical hours. Students completing this will be eligible to take the National Healthcare Association Certified Phlebotomy Technician examination. The cost of the externship is $125.
•Certified Nursing Assistant – Tuesday and Thursday, 4-9 p.m., Oct. 1-Dec. 17
This class includes lecture, classroom skills lab and clinical training, which includes 35 hours of supervised patient care in an approved healthcare facility. Graduates of this class may apply to take the certification competency exam and become licensed CNAs. The cost is $569.
•Registered Dental Assistant – Tuesday and Thursday, 6-9 p.m., Sept. 10-Feb. 13
This course covers all aspects of dentistry including anatomy, the form and structure of teeth, infection control, and restorative dentistry. Students will also learn about radiology in dentistry. Students are responsible for arranging 30 hours of observation experience to be completed before the last day of class. A high school diploma or G.E.D. is required. The cost is $759.
Classes in Morristown will meet at the Walters State Campus.
•Phlebotomy – Monday and Wednesday, 5:30-9 p.m. Oct. 7-Dec. 16
The class includes classroom and clinical instruction in venipuncture, the process of drawing blood. Learn to safely draw blood and prepare it for labs or testing. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to make apply to take the certification competency exam and become licensed CNAs. The cost is $569.
