Educator and leadership expert Velda Arnaud will speak on “Leading with Emotional Intelligence” at 3 p.m. on Sept. 5 in the International Lyceum on the Walters State Community College Morristown campus. The presentation can be viewed live via video streaming in room 143 of Cates-Cutshall Hall on the Sevier County Campus; room 100 on the Greeneville/Greene County Campus and room 80 at the Claiborne County Campus. The event is free and open to everyone.
This workshop will help individuals understand the components of emotional intelligence; how to improve emotional intelligence and become better leaders; and how to help others develop their emotional intelligence in developing and effective working team.
“Velda is an informed and entertaining speaker who connects well with any audience, said Dr. Viki Rouse, associate professor of English.
“Her message concerning leadership and emotional intelligence can positively affect all of us in our personal lives and in the highly competitive arenas of education and business.”
Arnaud is the first recipient of the Jo Marshall Leadership Award last spring from Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges. The award encourages profession growth of Phi Theta Kappa by providing a $5,000 stipend for the completion of a project that contributes to personal leadership growth beyond just the completion of a degree. Her appearance at Walters State is actually part of her stipend project, delivering workshops on various leadership topics at community colleges across the country.
