Walters State Community College hopes to recruit teachers in 27 subjects through its Adjunct Faculty Recruit Fair on June 12. The event runs from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the Dr. Jack E. Campbell College Center on the Morristown campus.
Teachers are needed for online, hybrid and traditional classroom courses in Morristown, Greeneville, Tazewell and Sevierville.
“We are actively seeking instructors willing to use alternative delivery methods, especially those targeting nontraditional students,” said Matthew Hunter, dean of distance education at Walters State.
“A good working knowledge of the subject area and a desire to share that knowledge is vital for our adjunct faculty members. This is a good chance for community members to help our students grow and make a difference in the lives of students,” Hunter said.
He added that current adjunct faculty members include retirees, business leaders, attorneys, health care professionals and stay-at-home mothers.
Most subjects require a master’s degree with 18 graduate semester hours in the subject area. Applicants should have a working knowledge of computers and the Internet since many homework assignments are turned in online. Teaching or training experience is helpful but not required.
Those attending the fair must bring a completed application and a copy of all college transcripts. Details, including the application and a list of available subjects, are available here
Gay McNair attended last year’s Adjunct Faculty Fair and now teaches one or two classes a semester in art history.
“I love teaching and I love the students at Walters State. I have taught art history for 22 years and this is one of the nicest places where I have worked. The support for adjuncts here is wonderful,” McNair said.
Division deans and department heads will be at the fair prepared to review applications and transcripts. For more information, contact the division of distance education at (423) 585-6996.
