Career Center Plans Variety of Workshops
August 27, 2014

The Tennessee Career Center at Talbott, an American Jobs Center, plans 30 free workshops for job seekers during the month of September. The Center is located in the Alpha Square Shopping Center next to Fred’s. Workshops are provided through an agreement with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development and Walters State Community College.
This is the schedule for September:
•Job Readiness Series Basic (includes job search techniques, resumes and cover letters, interviewing and applications) – Sept. 2 or 16, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
•Employability Skills (conflict management, teambuilding, work ethics) – Sept. 2, 1:30-4:30 p.m.
•Job Search Marketability Lab (using jobs4TN, resume development, remedial math and reading) – Sept. 3, 10 or 17, 9-3:30 p.m. This class is on a drop-in basis. 
•Safety and Security Using the Internet – Sept. 3, 10, 17 and 24, 2-3 p.m.
•Computer Literacy, Mouse Practice – Sept. 4, 9-9:30 a.m. 
•Computer Literacy – Sept. 4, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
•Ex-Offender Job Readiness Workshop – Sept. 8, 15 and 22, 10-11 a.m.
•Computer Literacy E-Mail Basics – Sept. 9, 10-11:30 a.m.
•Computer Literacy, Internet Basics – Sept. 9, 1:30-4 p.m.
•Veteran’s Workshop – Sept. 11 and 23, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
•Computer Literacy, Electronic Note Management – Sept. 11, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
•Computer Literacy, Electronic Database Management – Sept. 16, 1:30-4:30 p.m.
•Computer Literacy, Electronic Spreadsheet – Sept. 18, 9 a.m.-noon
•Computer Literacy, Electronic Publishing – Sept. 18, 2-4 p.m.
•Computer Literacy, Slide Presentation – Sept 23, 9:30 a.m.-noon
•Older Workers Career Symposium – 10 a.m.-noon
          
While there is no cost to attend, reservations are required. Reservations can be made by calling the Center at (423) 317-1060.
          
In addition to the workshops, the Tennessee Career Center offers a resource lab with computers, printers and fax machines. Job seekers may use all of these at no charge. Individuals must be at least 18 years old to access adult services. Those under 18 may receive services from the Smoky Mountains Youth Council, which is also located at the center.
